International Ludwig Wittgenstein Society
The International Ludwig Wittgenstein Society (German: Internationale Ludwig Wittgenstein Gesellschaft, ILWG) was founded in Passau in 1994 (initially as the German Ludwig Wittgenstein Society) by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Lütterfelds. The society is dedicated to the history of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s work and influence. Its aim is to network and promote international research and events on Wittgenstein’s philosophy.
The society’s activities include publishing the ‚Wittgenstein Studies: International Yearbook for Wittgenstein Research‚ with Walter de Gruyter (Berlin/New York) and organising various academic events on the life and work of Ludwig Wittgenstein. Regular events organised by the ILWG include the international Wittgenstein symposia, which take place every two years at different universities, and the smaller “Wittgenstein Forums”, which are held at various universities in Germany in the years between the symposia.
